Pixel 8 Pro is Currently the Best Value Phone from Google

Google is about to launch the Pixel 10 series, and No puedo estar mas emocionada (I can’t be more excited. That said, the greater impact of the Pixel 10 announcement is that the older versions are becoming more affordable and a better value for money. And according to my calculations, Pixel 8 Pro is the best value right now.

Why am I saying that? There is not much difference between the Pixel 9 Pro over the 8 Pro. Vendors just want to empty their shelves, so they are offering huge discounts on the Pixel 8 Pro.

It totally doesn’t mean that you should just go and buy the Pixel 8 Pro. I have been using it since last year, and I can help you make a sound buying decision. So, read on as I will mention every pro and con of buying a Pixel 8 Pro in 2025. Without much ado, let’s dive right into it.

Google Pixel 8 Pro: AI-Powered Features

Google has been heavily relying on its AI to improve the overall Pixel experience; it is only natural that I talk about that in the beginning.

Since the launch of ChatGPT, there has been a huge wave of development in AI. Google, being a software company, has sprinkled AI-based features throughout the Pixels. For example, the voice search that you can use by just saying “Hey Google”. It will recognize your voice and then complete the inputs for you.

One of the coolest things about this AI feature is that it understands multiple languages. I am a native Spanish speaker, and I prefer talking in Spanish. The other day, I was making some Quesadillas for myself, and my hands were not clean. I needed to pay my internet bill, so I just said: “Llamar al servicio de atención al cliente de Optimum en español y ponerlo en el altavoz.” It exactly did just that, and I paid my internet bill without even touching my phone. ¡¿Que tan genial es eso?! (How cool is that?!)

Apart from the voice assistant feature, it comes with other AI features as well, like an editing tool. If your friend photo-bombed you, and you want to remove them from the photo, just use the magic eraser, and you will be all set. Back in the day, if you wanted to remove them, you’d have needed to hire a graphic designer.

All in all, some of these features are genuinely helpful, while some are just a gimmick.

Google Pixel 8 Pro: Performance

Performance is another important factor in making or breaking a phone. How good Pixel 8 Pro when it comes to performance?

Starting with the specs, it is powered by the Tensor G3 chipset, which is essentially Samsung Exynos made for Pixel. So, is it weak when it comes to performance? Well, not necessarily.

I haven’t felt that it is underpowered, at least in regular usage like surfing the internet, scrolling through social media, taking pictures (more on that coming up), and stuff like that. The point where it shows signs of weakness is gaming. Don’t get me wrong – most of the time it performs fine in gaming. But every once in a while, it drops the frame rate. Throwing in some comparison, previously I had a OnePlus, and that phone was a beast when it came to gaming. On the flip side, if you are a hardcore gamer who needs the maximum FPS without any drops in the frame rate, then it might not be the right choice for you.

So, the thing is, you need to evaluate yourself first. If you are a power user, then you might want to spend money on the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S23, but if you are like most people, you will be fine with the Pixel 8 Pro.

Google Pixel 8 Pro: Cameras

Pixels and cameras are to be talked about together.

Pixel 8 Pro has a triple camera setup at the back, which includes a 50MP main shooter, a 48MP ultrawide lens, and another 48MP telephoto lens that is capable of taking 5x telephoto shots.

Putting the number aside, let me walk you through how good it actually is when it comes to real-world usage. I was on a road trip, and I had the chance to fully test the Pixel 8 Pro’s camera out, and I was impressed. It is one of the best camera systems in any phone at this price range.

Photos had enough detail in them, and they were vibrant. The dynamic range was great too: even though I took photos in the bright daylight, the camera managed it really well. Also, since the camera lens is big, it lets in enough light, and the photos came out bright.

On the other hand, videos were good too. It can record 4K up to 60fps, and this is what I needed during my road trip.

Now, should you buy the Google Pixel 8 Pro? I think it is a great phone. Just make sure you buy a slightly used one, so that the battery won’t be a hassle in the long run.
